Board President Job Description:

  • Leads the organization in strategic planning. The President works collaboratively with Board Members and the Executive Director to set organizational goals and creates a strategic plan with specific, measurable outcomes.

  • Evaluates the progress of the planned outcomes and the strategic plan to grow organizational capacity and ensure the actions of the organization are in line with mission, vision, and goals of the organization.

  • Schedules and leads executive board meetings. The President shall set the agenda for regular meetings and ensure completion of the scorecard prior to each meeting.

  • Develop special interest committees and assign committee leaders as needed, overseeing the performance of committees and provide guidance regarding the alignment of committees with the organization.

  • Oversees the performance of the Executive Director, Shelter Manager, and Thrift Store Manager, ensuring operational procedures and policy are being followed and short and long-term goals are being achieved.

  • SOCKS seeks an experienced advocacy professional who has planned and implemented successful strategies and campaigns to support an issue or cause. We seek a board leader to help cultivate the board’s leadership role in advocacy in support of staff as part of a broader commitment to increase awareness about the importance of our mission and stabilize our financial and organizational structure. The ideal board candidate to fit this profile should have prior non-profit board member experience or have received formal board training.

Experience
Currently, the board is looking for individuals who preferably have previous experience with fundraising, event planning and coordination, or legal matters. With that in mind, SOCKS is open to and seeking individuals who have experience in a variety of other fields as well.

Job Description


The SOCKS Board of Directors comprises leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Serving on the SOCKS Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about animal rescue and the quality of life in our community for both animals and humans.


Board members are expected to have some form of financial literacy in order to read and understand SOCKS’ financial statements and to best help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities. Additionally, Board members are expected to attend a minimum of ten monthly board meetings per year and to read board materials in advance of meetings, be prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions. Board members are also expected to serve on one or more committees of the board and to actively participate in committee work, as well as playing an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for SOCKS to achieve its mission. Board members are encouraged to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the development committee and staff identify and solicit potential donors, as well as directly invest in SOCKS’ work by making a personal contribution each year. Lastly, board members are expected to responsibly represent SOCKS to their respective communities and to advocate for SOCKS’ mission, programs, and services as appropriate.
Board terms last for three years and board members can serve for up to three consecutive terms.

PROFILE 2:
Advocacy Connector

SOCKS seeks a well-connected leader who is passionate about animal welfare and can leverage his/her networks and resources in support of efforts to positively impact the sponsorship levels allowing for SOCKS to do its work. The ideal candidate for this profile has a track-record of supporting public improvements, fundraising, and strong connections to local business leaders who are willing to financially support SOCKS. The ideal board candidate for this profile  should have prior non-profit board member experience or have received formal board training.
