Volunteer Support
Our Volunteer Team is the lifeblood of our organization. Simply, we could not accomplish our goals without the support of the community and those who volunteer their time and skills.
Save Our Cats and Kittens operates largely by the hard work of our volunteers. No matter your experience or skillset, you have what we need - time and passion!
While volunteering and working with animals is fun, it is important to keep in mind the characteristics of great volunteers - energetic, flexible, imaginative and creative, reliable and committed, selfless, passionate, and teamwork.
These are just some of the ways to help!

Cat Taxi
(Feline Transportation Specialist)
Do you have a valid driver’s license, a soft spot for backseat drivers with whiskers, and a flexible schedule? We need reliable Cat Taxi volunteers to help transport our feline passengers to and from the shelter—for vet visits, foster placements, events, or the occasional last-minute rescue mission.
This role is often on-call and sometimes urgent, so we’re looking for calm, confident folks who can handle both traffic and a yowling cat in a carrier. You’ll need a clean driving record, a dependable vehicle, and the ability to manage cats solo (no backseat co-pilots, unfortunately—unless they’re furry).
Bonus: No small talk required from your passengers. Just some suspicious glances and the occasional protest meow.
You’ll be playing a critical role in making sure our cats get the care, support, and second chances they need — one ride at a time.

Store Donations Curator (Treasure Hunter in Chief)
If you’ve ever watched someone unload a trunk and thought, “Ooooh, let me see what’s in that box!”—this is your moment to shine.
As a Thrift Store Donations Curator, you'll help us sort the fabulous from the… well, not-so-fabulous. This role includes inspecting incoming donations, deciding what makes it to the sales floor, placing items where they'll shine, and sometimes gently saying goodbye to things that should have never left the garage.
You might also help with picking up donations from homes and businesses—so the ability to lift, carry, or creatively Tetris a backseat full of lamps is a big plus. Whether you’re a lover of vintage mugs, a clothing rack organizer extraordinaire, or just someone with a strong stomach and good judgment, we need you.
Perks include first glimpses of donated treasures, good company, and the knowledge that your efforts directly support the cats and kittens at SOCKS.

Shelter Prep
(Keeper of Clean and Orderly Cat Quarters)
Let’s be honest: this isn’t the glamorous volunteer job. There are no sparkles, no kittens in tutus, and definitely no red carpet. But it is one of the most important things we do to keep our cats healthy, happy, and ready to charm their future adopters.
Saturday morning Shelter Prep is all about cleanliness. Litter boxes need scrubbing. Bedding needs changing. Floors need mopping. Dishes need washing. And the cats? They’ll supervise (or nap through it). Your work creates a fresh, welcoming space—for both cats and the people coming to meet them.
If you’re someone who finds satisfaction in a job well done, who doesn’t mind a little (or a lot of) cat hair, and who understands that clean = healthy, we could really use your help. You don’t have to stay all morning, but even an hour or two makes a big difference.
Bonus: You’ll earn the quiet respect of every cat who prefers their litter box pristine—and that’s saying something.

Foster Care
(Temporary Cat Concierge)
Do you have a warm heart, a soft spot for whiskers, and a little extra space in your home (and on your furniture)? Then you might be the purr-fect person to join our elite team of Foster Volunteers!
Foster heroes give cats and kittens a safe, loving place to crash until they’re ready for their forever homes. Sometimes it’s a kitten learning the ropes. Sometimes it’s a shy adult rediscovering trust. Either way, you are the bridge between "rescued" and "adopted."
We do have a thorough application and interview process—after all, not just anyone can become a part-time cat butler. Your home should be pet-friendly, your heart wide open, and your camera ready—because you'll definitely want to share your new furry roommates on social media.
Perks include unlimited snuggles, kitten zoomie entertainment, and the deep satisfaction of changing a life (or nine).

Laundry Specialist
(a.k.a. Lord of the Linens)
Are you someone who finds joy in the smell of fresh laundry and the hum of a dryer? Do you believe in the magical power of warm towels and the glory of matching socks (cat-sized or human—we don’t judge)? Then you might just be our next Laundry Legend!
At SOCKS, laundry isn’t just a chore—it’s a full-blown saga. Blankets, towels, bedding, and the occasional mystery item all pile up fast when dozens of cats are living their best lives. We don’t expect you to stay all day (unless you really love the job), but if you can give us a couple of hours of your time to wash, dry, fold, and repeat, you'll be helping keep our kitties comfy, cozy, and clean.
Bonus: Our washers and dryers don’t talk back, and the cats will silently judge you far less than your own family does when you fold fitted sheets incorrectly.

Special Events Assistance (Master of Fun and Fundraising)
Do you have the organizational skills of a Tetris champion and the creativity of a Pinterest board come to life? Then we need YOU to help us turn fundraising and educational events into epic community celebrations!
As a Special Events Assistant, you’ll be the behind-the-scenes superstar who helps plan, set up, and bring our events to life. Whether it’s a cat-tastic fundraiser or an educational extravaganza, your efforts will help make these events a huge success. From setting up decorations (hello, cat-themed everything) to ensuring everything runs smoothly, you’ll be the event MVP.
No previous event-planning experience required—just a can-do attitude, some comfortable shoes, and a love for all things feline. Get ready to meet new people, contribute to a great cause, and maybe even get the chance to show off your cat-themed party-planning prowess.
