For the first time ever SOCKS participated in a mass spay/neuter event! Alley Cat Allies Feline Frenzy in the Panhandle and the Pensacola Humane Society made it possible for SOCKS to facilitate the spays/neuters of 39 cats in one day. Tuesday evening, May 7, 39 people entrusted SOCKS with the overnight care and transport of their cats and kittens to Pensacola. On Wednesday, May 8, thanks to many volunteers and staff arriving at 5:00 am we got the cats and kittens securely loaded into a rental van Wednesday. We transported them to Pensacola Humane Society and the Barbara Grice Memorial Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic. This one amazing day prevented hundreds of unwanted kittens in Okaloosa County alone.
A big THANK YOU to Lenny's Subs on Mary Esther Cut-off for providing dinner for staff and volunteers on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Also thanks to Main Brew Coffee on Beal Parkway for making it possible for much-needed coffee to fuel us Wednesday morning.
Thanks to a grant from Alley Cat Allies and Pensacola Humane Society providing the facilities and vets, we were able to participate in this amazing project. We hope to find ways to participate in the future.
